Toy and Technology Library
The Rehab Technology Center's Toy and Technology Library has a unique combination of battery-operated toys, adaptive switches, basic communication devices, and simple electronic aids for daily living (EADLs). This equipment is available for loan to therapists and families in the greater Grand Rapids area to help develop interest and skills with children who have special needs. Most of the items are designed to facilitate play opportunities for children with limited physical or sensory abilities.
Various switches allow children with limited hand function to operate adapted battery toys and eventually learn to use similar switches for communication devices, computers, power wheelchairs, or home devices, such as lights or doors.
Therapists and families working with children with special needs are welcome to use the library. There is no charge for library items, but we do require a registration form be completed at checkout and ask that items be returned in a two-week period in good working order.
