Meet the Mary Free Bed Orthotics Treatment Team
Injuries and disease impact people in various ways — physically, socially, psychologically, and even spiritually. The team at Mary Free Bed Orthotics & Prosthetics works together to integrate your treatment to help you achieve the most independence possible. Depending on your specific condition, some or all of the following professionals may be a part of your care at Mary Free Bed O&P.
Certified Orthotist (CO)
Evaluates the patient for the prescribed orthosis
Designs the appropriate orthosis by selecting from our extensive component inventory
Manages patient treatment by fitting and adjusting the orthosis for comfort
Orthotics Technician
Fabricates and repairs orthosis to be fit by a certified orthotist
Physiatrist (pronounced fizz-i-a-trist)
Physician specializing in rehabilitation medicine
Manages the treatment of each patient and coordinates the work of other professionals on the therapy team
Certified Pedorthist (CPed)Evaluates below the ankle for the prescribed orthosis
Designs the appropriate orthosis
Manages patient treatment by fitting and adjusting the orthosis for comfort
Physical Therapist (PT)
Evaluates patient's balance, mobility, strength, and muscle function
Provides physical training and teaches techniques for everyday functioning
Occupational Therapist (OT)
Teaches techniques and skills for eating and drinking, dressing, toileting, bathing, hygiene, shopping, and laundry
Helps with fitting and customizing special adaptive equipment
Rehabilitation Nurse
Evaluates and monitors each patient
Develops care plans
Focuses on patient's self-care, comfort, and education
Orthotics Staff
Rex Brown,
CO
Rex is a clinical specialist managing patients requiring orthoses. His specialty areas include helmets for plagiocephaly, children's orthoses, and scoliosis. Rex is also the orthotic residency director. Additionally, he is assigned to the Hastings satellite location and attends clinics at area developmental schools. Rex has been working at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital since 1992.
GN Corazza,
CO
A clinical specialist managing patients requiring orthoses, GN's specialty areas include helmets for plagiocephaly and children's orthoses. GN has been working at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital since 1998.
Pat Dorgan, RTPO
Pat is a staff orthotist who manages patients requiring orthoses. His specialty areas are geriatric and athletic knee braces and geriatric patient orthoses. Pat has been part of the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital team since 1975 and working in Orthotics since 1979.
Becky deLongpre',
CPed
Becky is a certified pedorthist working in the management of patients requiring special shoes and/or inserts (foot orthotics). Her specialty area is diabetic, partial foot, athletic, and painful foot conditions. Becky has worked in pedorthics since 1987 and at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital since 1997.
Larry Dubinshak,
CPed
Larry is a certified pedorthist working in the management of patients requiring special shoes and inserts. His specialty area is diabetic, partial foot, athletic, and painful foot conditions. Larry joined that staff at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in 1991.
Stacy Eddy,
Certified Fitter, Orthotics
Stacy is a certified orthotic fitter who manages patients requiring orthoses. Her specialty area is orthoses for orthopedic injuries. Stacy provides services at the River Valley Orthopedic office. She has been a member Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital team since 1994.
John,
Certified Prosthetist Orthotist
As a clinical specialist and manager, John manages patients requiring orthoses and prostheses. His specialty area is children's orthoses. John is also assigned to the Muskegon satellite location. He has worked in orthotics since 1974 and at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital since 1978.
Ethan Leavitt, Certified Orthotist
In addition to being a certified orthotist, Ethan is a board-eligible prothetist and is certified to fit patients with the RHEO KNEE® and the WalkAide™ system. He graduated from the University of Washington's School of Medicine with a bachelor's degree in Orthotics & Prosthetics. His specialties include plagiocephaly helmets, pediatric lower extremity bracing, and CROW bracing.
Jennifer Marcellus,
RTO
Jennifer is a registered orthotic technician working in the management of patients requiring orthoses. Her specialty area is orthoses for orthopedic injuries. Jennifer provides services at the River Valley Orthopedics office. She has worked at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital since 1993.
John McKerchie,
RTO
John is a registered technician who manages patients requiring orthoses. His specialty areas are geriatric and athletic knee braces and geriatric patient orthoses. John has worked at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital since 1982.
Becky Meyer,
CO
As a staff orthotist, Becky manages patients requiring orthoses. Her specialty areas are geriatric orthoses, children's orthoses, and scoliosis. Becky joined the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital staff in 2003.
Kim Nequist, RTO, OA
Kim is an orthotics assistant managing patients requiring orthoses. Her specialty area is orthoses for orthopedic injuries.
Doug Richardson, CO
Doug is a clinical specialist who manages patients requiring orthoses. His specialty areas are traumatic brain injury and scoliosis. Doug also provides services to the Spectrum Health Continuing Care Facility here in Grand Rapids. Doug has worked at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital since 1988.
Rebecca Spragg, BSE, MSPO
Rebecca is an orthotics resident for Mary Free Bed Orthotics & Prosthetics. She studied biomedical engineering and sports medicine at Case Western Reserve University and graduated in 2006. She also earned a master's degree in prosthetics and orthotics in 2008 from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Rebecca's areas of interests are plagiocephaly and pediatric orthotics.
Brent Tuinstra, CO
Brent is a clinical specialist who manages patients requiring orthoses. His specialty areas are helmets for plagiocephaly and children's orthoses. Brent began his career at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in 2005.
Mike Vezikov, RTOP, Staff Orthotist
Mike completed Northwestern University’s Orthotic Program and completed his residency program at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. His specialty areas are burn masks and knee orthoses. Mike has worked at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital since 1990.
