Physician Documentation Requirements for Diabetic Patients' Therapeutic Shoes
When providing diabetic shoes and inserts to Medicare participants, the treating physician is required to:
- Complete and sign an SCP form stating that all coverage requirements are met
- Document in your records that you are managing the patient's diabetes
When requested by the supplier, you must provide copies of these records so the items can be delivered to your patient and the provider can be reimbursed.
At Mary Free Bed Orthotics and Prosthetics, we realize this is additional paperwork required for you and will only request necessary information to allow Medicare to reimburse for these items.
